40 Ways to help the Environment today
- Plant trees
- Plant plants for specific local animals/insects (Example: Plant milkweed for butterflies)
- Take note of your plastic consumption
- Don’t buy items with a lot of packaging
- Follow the 3 R’s:
- Recycle
- Reduce
- Reuse
- Rot (Composting)
- Recall (Spread the word and tell others to participate)
- Be aware of the invasive and natural species in your area
- ALWAYS turn off the lights when you leave a room even if it is just for a moment.
- Write to your representatives about what you are doing to help the environment, and what topics you think they should take action on.
- Use LED light bulbs and conserve energy whenever possible.
- Use social media to show your support to Eco-friendly and pro-environment organizations, and to raise awareness about issues you care about.
- Turn off or down your AC unit to conserve energy and electricity.

- If you are eating seafood, eat food that is no endangered or over fished.
- Turn of the TV if you are not watching it, or in another room.
- Don’t let your balloons fly away. They can land in body’s of water or in an animals habitat and can easily be mistaken for food
- Walk or ride your bike to cut back on air pollution and your environmental footprint
- Avoid plastic straws and keep a metal straw in your purse, car, etc.
- Use a reusable water bottle.
- Volunteer at a local beach or park clean up
- Pick up after your pet
- Look at the page “Ways to help the environment ” under “What you can do” on this website
- Use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags. If you have a pet like me, you can shop with plastic bags every once and a while, so that you can pick up after your pet.
- Buy recycled paper and print as little as possible
- Try to use less paper in general
- Carpool when ever possible
- Build your hive for the bees
- Take short showers
- Buy and invest in companies that have Eco-friendly policies, and try to avoid those that do not .
- Try to avoid traveling by airplane. It produces a VERY high level of Carbon Dioxide.
- If you buy a set of beverages that come in 6 pack rings, (Soda, beer etc) cut cut the rings before you throw them away. This prevents animals head from getting stuck in a ring if it makes it way into an animals habitat. (Which is likely.)
- Avoid pesticides of any kind on your property or garden! Pesticides kill a ton of wildlife. When you spray them on your garden if is getting on the food you eat, and you do not want to be eating chemicals!
- Eat less beef and pork
- Plant plants that help pollinators
- Start a garden
- Use a cloths line
- Have a vegetarian day
- Get out in nature!
