On August 5th, 1993, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was sworn into the supreme court and became the second female supreme court justice in history. She was dubbed ¨The Notorious RBG. ¨ and become an icon for women around the Globe. But it hadn’t been an easy ride for this Real life superhero. 

Joan Ruth Bader was born in March 1933, and grew up in Brooklyn New york. Her Older sister died when she was just a baby, as well as her mother while she was finishing up her high school years. Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the idea of a lady lawyer was constantly laughed at. But She went to work. She went on from there to attend Cornell University, and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in 1954 as one of the only women in her class. Ruth was a mother to a 14 month old baby when she starting law school at Harvard University.

It was there that she met her Husband, Martin D. Ginsburg. Martin constantly faced pancreatic cancer. For several years of her life, Ruth would go to law school, take care of her sick husband, play with her child, take notes on what classes her husband missed, and then work to 4 in the morning. Against all the odds, Ruth Bader Ginsburg Graduated from Columbia law school at the top of her class in 1959

 

Ruth Bader Ginburg was nominated for the US supreme court by President Bill Clinton, and was officially in office on August 10th, 1993. She has become a champion of women’s rights, arguing many landmark cases on gender equality, and helping as well as inspiring people around the world in so many ways, and she changed this country as we know it.

At the age of 87, Joan Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away at her home in Washington D. C. on September 18th 2020.
